careful with one another,
reduced to a civility that keeps the peace,
that passes the time in a finely stitched quilt of status quo
it’s complaisant, unnerving,
this glass house and no stones,
this sort of civility that’s an undertow of mistrust,
this politeness that is nothing left to say
