I cannot control the wind
or it’s constant metamorphose,
I listen to the rustling of the leaves,
and watch the tree tops sway,
I feel it’s force against my cheeks
as my heels dig into the ground
I fight achingly against each sudden surge,
and lean in with all my might,
while it gainfully gusts,
and steadily swirls,
any way it chooses,
with no conscience, no regret
until I’m left squarely standing,
slightly swaying like the tops of trees,
I close my eyes, feet firmly planted,
listening to more than the leaves
I hear my inner voice, shouting,
‘I have not acquiesced’
for, I know,
I cannot control the wind,
nor can it control me

A lovely poem! The seasons of life have us believing so many things, some of which are assumptions or fear induced beliefs. And sometimes it’s fact that we wish not to see! A lovely metaphor. Thanks for sharing it!

Thank you so much, Chuck. The wind is a wonderful subject for a metaphor for life, I think, as are trees. Thanks, again!

love your connection with nature here. the wind is a force, even when its just a breeze, we still feel its energy. you have such inner strength standing against that surge.

Thank you! I love connecting with nature; I require it. Yes, we do feel it’s energy and it’s also a wonderful metaphor for life and it’s constant changes. Thank you – I feel like I was meant to humbly find that inner strength and use it. May sound silly, but that’s what I feel!

ahh not silly at all! on my last hike I had to stop and hug some trees, it gave me strength to carry on for another day, my daughter called me a pink speck in the forest! its so natural to want to be one with the elements. i am glad you feel that energy.
